Andres Bonifacio

Who is Andres?

AndrĂ©s Bonifacio y de Castro (November 30, 1863 – May 10, 1897) was a Filipino nationalist and revolutionary. He was a founder and later the supreme leader of the Katipunan movement which sought the independence of the Philippines from Spanish colonial rule and started the Philippine Revolution. He is considered a de facto national hero of the Philippines. Bonifacio is also considered by some Filipino historians to be the first president of the Philippines, but he is not officially recognized as such.

Andres Bonifacio is known in the Philippines as the Great Plebeian. He was born to a poor family in Tondo, Manila, on November 30, 1863. His parents were Santiago Bonifacio and Catalina de Castro.

Although not well-schooled (he reached only primary school), he was quite literate and fluent enough to read and write in Spanish. He admired Jose Rizal, whose works on Noli Mi Tangere and El Filibusterismo inspired him and developed a strong sense of nationalism. He organized a secret society and revolutionary group, Katipunan, in 1892 when Rizal was arrested and deported to Dapitan. Shortly after, Bonifacio became the Supremo (head) of the Katipunan. Unlike those in the middle class, Bonifacio and his circle of plebeians did not seek reforms from the Spanish government. Their aim was to liberate the native Filipinos from tyranny and procure their independence. The Katipunan became the core of the revolutionary army under Emilio Aguinaldo whose election as President of the Philippine Revolutionary Government cost Bonifacio's downfall. After being tried by the council of war on charges of treason, General Lazaro Makapagal led a group of soldiers who executed Bonifacio and his brother Procopio on May 10, 1897.

Happy Birthday Andres!!!
Wherever you are... thank you for making
this country a better place!!!

Here's a poem, one of my favorites, written by our great hero, Andress Bonifacio:

PAG-IBIG SA TINUBUANG LUPA

Aling pag-ibig pa ang hihigit kaya
sa pagkadalisay at magkadakila
Gaya ng pag-ibig sa sariling lupa?
Aling pag-ibig pa? Wala na nga, wala.

Pagpupuring lubos ang palaging hangad
Sa bayan ng taong may dangal na ingat,
Umawit, tumula, kumata't at sumulat,
Kalakhan din niya'y isinisiwalat.

Walang mahalagang hindi inihandog
Ng may pusong mahal sa Bayang nagkupkop,
dugo, yaman, dunong, katiisa't pagod,
Buhay ma'y abuting magkalagut-lagot.

Bakit?

Walang alaala't inaasa-asam
Kundi ang makita'y lupang tinubuan.

Pati ng magdusa'y sampung kamatayan
Wari ay masarap kung dahil sa bayan
At lalong mahirap. Oh, himalang bagay!
Lalong pag-irog pa ang sa kanya'y alay.

Kung ang bayang ito'y masasa-panganib
At siya ay dapat na ipagtangkilik,
Ang anak, asawa, magulang, kapatid;
Isang tawag niya'y tatalidang pilit.

Hayo na nga, hayo, kayong nagabuhay
Sa pag-asang lubos ng kaginhawahan
At walang tinamo kundi kapaitan,

At hanggang may dugo'y ubusing itigis;
kung sa pagtatanggol, buhay ay mapatid,
Ito'y kapalaran at tunay na langit!

Blaze yourself

Petron is the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines. It supplies more than 3/4 the country's oil requirements.

Just recently, Blaze 100 is the latest released gasoline variant of Petron with a Research Octane Number (RON) rating of 100, before it was just 97 Octane.

Blaze is said to pass European emission standards (Euro 2). This product also promises to make your car engine more efficient, quiet, and faster. Blaze 100 does not have any ethanol content.

Blaze is now available at all Petron Gas stations with the market price of about 51.10php.

Blaze is quite pricey. Actually, it will be really of good use if it will be used for racing or if  the vehicle you are using has a high performance engine, go Blaze it up!

Car experts advices city drivers to stick to their own preferred gas, for Blaze wouldn't be advantageous with the daily traffic at the metro.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

I grew up watching Harry Potter and loving Harry Potter. I read just the first three books but I think I have to find time to go through the other books. I have to find time to read all the books again and watch all the movie again before HP7 part two comes out.
In all honesty, or even without honesty, HP7 Part one brought me to another life... it's just too magical.
I l❤❥ve you... Harry!!!

Starbucks: 1st Drive Thru in the Philippines

When I lived in the US for quite sometime, I noticed Starbucks branches have Drive Thru's like the fast foods. I asked my Tito Pogs about it and he said that it was normal for every Starbucks cafe there.

I remember asking my brother months ago if the Starbucks Drive thru will work here in the Philippines, he said, it will not because its hard to make the coffee alone and it will require quite a lot of time for a quick drive thru. Also, I think half of the Starbucks goers here in the Philippines are just like me, we go there for the coffee, the ambiance, the soothing music and the wifi.

I thought Starbucks Drive Thru will never be possible in the Philippines. But, TODAY, a Starbucks branch opened and with a DRIVE THRU .

But its not only that it's with a Drive Thru that makes it special, the store is the first LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] designed store in the Philippines. It means that the building is made of very environment-friendly materials.

A movement Starbucks is brewing for the environment:

  • These 14 metal plaques are strategically placed throughout the store detailing some of the LEED elements used for this store.

Who knows more green cafes might be built in the Philippines soon, with Drive Thru of course. This Starbucks Branch is located at Bonifacio Global City, 32nd St. & 7th Ave.

Remembering Maguindanao Masacre

Last year, I was applying at UNTV. I already took the exam... passed. Then,  was interviewed by Sir Jay. I don't know what really happened next... maybe I passed, or maybe not. All I know is that I didn't like the environment UNTV have, even if it was my dream to work for a TV station.... and I was lazy to follow-up as well.

I realized God loves me... if I was accepted at UNTV or if I was pursuing enough, I could have been one of those journalists who died there. No offense... all of them are heroes... I look up to them. Sometimes, I also imagine myself taking a bullet for a very important news/exposĂ© that would open the minds and hearts of our fellow country men. But I guess it wasn't just my time yet.

Today, Let's give a moment of silence for all our brothers and sisters who was murdered at Maguindanao. May all of them be happy now in the arms of our Lord. May their families spirits always be lifted up. Let's us all hope and pray that one day justice will be given to all of our heroes.

Love. Peace. JUSTICE.

Starbuck-ling Moments

I have a lot of Starbucks moments. I'm not a avid fan of the cafe, but drinking coffee there  gives me a totally different relaxing experience over coffee. I love coffee, from 7-11 cups to grandeurs.
I have a lot of Starbucks coffee moments. It's not a lot but most of them carved a story in my heart, everything worth novel-ing.

The first ever Starbucks branch that I ever visited was the one in Intramuros [near Letran], way back College. We were rushing documents for our NSTP that time  and we decided to head to the nearest Starbucks--have some place to stay and discuss things. Amiel treated me with a Cofee Jelly... So, I didn't pay for the first ever Starbucks coffee that I enjoyed. :)

I was able to buy my first ever Starbucks tumbler with the money I got from the empty printer cartridges I sold.

from http://starbucksaddicteri.blogspot.com
Whenever I visit other countries, drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying a slice of cheesecake is always a part of my itinerary. I just love Starbucks.

So Remember Me One Day as Kind

When I die, I want people to remember me as kind. It hasn’t always been that way. Four years ago, I was a very different person, a wounded...
