The Plot

It is the 1990s and Jamie (Gyllenhaal) works in an electronics store. He is talking females into buying phones and stereos while flirting with the store owner’s girlfriend. Jamie and the owner’s girlfriend sneak into the back to have sex. While having sex, the girlfriend's cell phone accidentally dials the owner who discovers what they are doing and fires Jamie.
Later that night Jamie is at his parents' house for dinner. His brother Josh brings up Jamie getting fired, and the family criticizes him for dropping out of medical school. Jamie says that Josh is going to help him get set up as a pharmaceutical sales representative.
Jamie goes to work for Pfizer and tries to get doctors to prescribe Zoloft and Zithromax. He is rebuffed constantly much to the dismay of his partner Bruce (Platt) who sees Jamie as his ticket to the "big leagues" of Chicago. Bruce tells Jamie if he can get Dr. Knight (Azaria) to prescribe Zoloft instead of Prozac, all the other doctors will follow his lead. After trying to chat Knight up several times, Jamie flirts with his receptionists and sneaks into the back to steal all of the Prozac samples and throw them in the dumpster.  [Read More]

Lines from the Movie:
Maggie Murdock: What's your game?
Jamie Randall: My game?
Maggie Murdock: Oh I'm sorry. Right. This is the part where we talk about where we come from and what we majored in in college.
Jamie Randall: You have beautiful eyes.
Maggie Murdock: That's it? That's the best you got?
Jamie Randall: I'm serious. They're beautiful.
Maggie Murdock: Let's go.
Jamie Randall: Excuse me?
Maggie Murdock: You want to close right? You want to get laid?
Jamie Randall: Now?
Maggie Murdock: Oh right, right, right. I'm supposed to act like I don't know if it's right. So then you tell me that there is no right or wrong. It's just the moment. And then I tell you that I can't while actually signalling to you that I can, which you don't need because you're not really listening. Because this isn't about connection for you. This isn't even about sex for you. This is about finding an hour or two of relief from the pain of being you. And that's fine with me, see, because all I want is the exact same thing.

Easy A: Let's not and say we did

When this trailer was posted on my FB wall with the message, "look at Amanda Bynes", I quickly hit the play to see what the story is all about. I am a fan of Amanda Bynes. I love her movies: What a girl wants, She's the Man, Sydney White, etc. I thought she got the lead role in this movie, but this time she's playing something different from her old roles.

Easy A is a movie about a High School girl--Olive--that turned her boring school life to excitement the day when she told a little white lie  about losing her virginity to help out her gay friend.

After the LIE, lot's of the school's underground gays wanted Olive's help. Though Olive's intentions are noble, people from the school started hating and judging her. As a means to cope with the rumor mill (inspired by Nathanial Hawthorn's Scarlet Letter and peer suggestion), Olive embroiders a red "A" on her entire wardrobe.

Starring: Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Dan Byrd, Thomas Haden Church
Directed by: Will Gluck
Genres: Romance, Comedy
Release Date: September 17, 2010
DVD Release Date: December 21, 2010

Don't expect too much about the Movie--it's a classic about high school life film. Just enjoy the  theatrical watch, the comedy, the fun, the faking and be high school all over again.  Hey! It's been awhile since we had a memorable HS Flick like Clueless and Mean Girls, so better enjoy this ONE!

High school: first kisses, raging hormones, mean girls, and trying to fit in. Find them all on EASY A, a cool teen comedy coming to cinemas Nov 10. - Columbia Pictures PH

The Switch

I thought it was just another "The Back-up Plan" movie but, then again, it so much more...

Last April 2010, The Back-up Plan, made its way to the theaters. The movie was a romantic comedy centered on a woman[Jeniffer Lopez]  who conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day.

The Switch is slightly the same in the aspect of having a kid without a real husband. Kassie, an unmarried 40-year-old woman,  is sick of hoping for the stars to align and for her to meet the right guy, fall in love, get married, and have a family. She has a BFF in the name of Wally, who is neurotic, cynical and head-over-heels in love with her.

Obviously, the two feels the same way with each other, it's just that neither one of them wants to make a move to break the "just friends" status. Kassie, being single for a long time now, decided to have her own baby through a sperm donor. During her insemination party, Wally, being very drunk,  replaced Roland's sperm with his own. Of course, being so wasted, he didn't remember he hi-jacked Kassie's pregnancy.

When the insemination was successful, Kassie went back to her parents home and raised her son there. After awhile, she returned to Minnesota with Sebastian, who's now 5 1/2 years old.

But not the happy ending for Kassie and Wally yet... Roland, the sperm donator, is back in the picture trying to take his place as Sebastian's father.

Meanwhile, as Wally spends more time with Sebastian, he begins to see extreme similarities between them and wonders... If Sebastian is really his son?

Starring Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman with the Direction of Josh Gordon and Will Speck, The Switch will be shown on all major theaters sometime this September or October.

My favorite quotes in the movie:
Look at us... Running around, always rushed, always late. Guess that's what they call the human race. But, sometimes, it slows down, just enough for all the pieces to fall into place. Fate works its magic and we are connected.

Every once in awhile, with all the randomness,  something unexpected happens and it pushes us all forward. And the truth is that I'm starting to think the human race isn't a race at all.

Don't forget to watch...
The most unexpected comedy ever conceived.
