Love and Other Drugs is a 2010 comedy-drama film directed by Edward Zwick, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, based on the non-fiction book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy.
Maggie (Hathaway) is an alluring free spirit who won't let anyone - or anything - tie her down. The Plot
It is the 1990s and Jamie (Gyllenhaal) works in an electronics store. He is talking females into buying phones and stereos while flirting with the store owner’s girlfriend. Jamie and the owner’s girlfriend sneak into the back to have sex. While having sex, the girlfriend's cell phone accidentally dials the owner who discovers what they are doing and fires Jamie.
Later that night Jamie is at his parents' house for dinner. His brother Josh brings up Jamie getting fired, and the family criticizes him for dropping out of medical school. Jamie says that Josh is going to help him get set up as a pharmaceutical sales representative.
Jamie goes to work for Pfizer and tries to get doctors to prescribe Zoloft and Zithromax. He is rebuffed constantly much to the dismay of his partner Bruce (Platt) who sees Jamie as his ticket to the "big leagues" of Chicago. Bruce tells Jamie if he can get Dr. Knight (Azaria) to prescribe Zoloft instead of Prozac, all the other doctors will follow his lead.
