Hike for Light

SM cares is the arm of SM Supermalls where its program serves not only as the retail industry leader but it also acts as a catalyst towards positive change in the Philippines. With this goal, SM Prime and SM Supermalls, through SM Cares Committee on the Environment, together with Hike for Light visited Mt. Apo National Park from February 10 to 13.

The collaboration between SM Cares sand  Hike for Light has provided lights to mountain areas with no electricity. (Please include names to the most important SM and Hike for Light people)

Hike for Light provides 500 lights for 500 families
During the hike, 40 Solar Ambassadors conducted a clean-up drive in the park. These Solar Ambassadors are environmentally-minded and renowned mountain climbers who represent different regions of the Philippines. These Solar Ambassadors were lead by Kaya ng Pinoy, the group behind the first Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition. They were able to collect bags and piles of trashes left carelessly by other hikers and visitors. "SM truly supported the project. They financed the solar lanterns distributed in the Mt. Apo communities. They covered the fees for the climbers that allowed these volunteers to clean-up the Mt. Apo National Park," Stifftung Solarenergie Program Manager and OIC Chinie Canivel said in a statement.

Hike for Light was supported by environmentally minded Solar Ambassadors who are  renowned mountain climbers from the different regions of the Philippines.

At the same time, solar systems were supplied to six communities living on the 6 peaks in the Philippines--Mt. Apo, Mt. Dulang-Dulang, Mt. Kanlaon, Mt. Madja-as, Mt. Pulag and Mt. Guiting-Guiting. These solar lanterns are durable and shock-proof solar lamps that store the sun's energy which can be used in lights and some USB powered devices like cellphones. Hike for Light also distributed 44 lanterns to United Sugarcane Planters Development Cooperation (USPDC) that they can use for disaster and risk reduction during emergency response operations. Sitio Sabwag, located at the jump-off point for Mt. Apo, also received two solar lanterns.

Hike for Light gives access to a reliable source of light for families living in the mountains.

Partner organizations like Philippine Eagle Foundation sponsored a reforestation project that encouraged families to plant 250 seedlings on a 0.25 hectare. The twenty families with the most number of seedlings planted received a solar lantern.

Hike for Light was a campaign lead by Stifftung Solarenergie, an international foundation who pioneered sustainable electricity for rural development. Hike for Light's mission is to distribute 500 solar lanterns to mountain areas with no electricity.

Six communities living in six peaks of the Philippines were supplied solar systems that can be used to store energy supply through the collaboration between SM Cares and Hike for Light

Derek Needs a New Anna!!!

Remember when this went nationwide and all became LSS-ed about this song?

Isn't that sweet? yup! But, look how sad Anna's reply was:

So the best way to "basted" a guy now was through the internet?
*sigh*

Broken hearts. Is the world full of hearts slashed in two? In threes? in fours? into tiny particles? Jay said no. I'm on my punch line and there he is interrupting me. Now, I couldn't find next words for that line. He asked me to write this instead... The heart shouldn't be broken. It should be liquidized. Sorry. He forced me to type those promising me that we will win this thing. =) He continued: It should be like rain, something you can't count. Like  soda, that can goes into you, pass through your veins, mix with your blood. It should be water... a living blood in your system, in your society. I'm quite amazed with his words. But I asked him, "If you will make the heart liquidized, it wouldn't have a special place? like now it's on our chest right?" He answered, "If it's liquidized, the special place will be anywhere. Like how it is now, it's on your chest, but it's everywhere.... when you close your eyes. When you do things, you give your heart out. When you love, you... just let your heart flow. You are even willing to give it to me? Don't you?"

Okay, enough of too much cheeze, pimiento and cheese ring.

What happened when Anna broke Derek's heart?

His family are to the RESCUE. As usual, to whom do we turn to when things goes beyond the boiling point... No one else but to those people who loves us for who we are unconditionally-OUR FAMILY.

I remembered my brother. As I said, the only way to heal a heart is to find someone new:

So let's all help Derek  hook up with a new ANNA!!!!

Eid'l Fitr @ The Block, SM North EDSA

WHAT: Eid’l Fitr Festival
WHEN: August 24-26, 2012
WHERE: The Block, SM City North EDSA

~o~

Annually, Muslims celebrates Eid’l Fitr, the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. This important event usually falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. It’s a time of joy, forgiving and thanksgiving among Muslims as they take the occasion to strengthen ties with family and friends, give gifts and zakat (alms), and feast together. Here in our country, Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr a national holiday.

This year, instead of having this celebrated within the ARMM Region where most Muslim communities reside, the Eid’l Fitr Festival goes to the metro and takes centerstage on August 24-26, 2012 at The Block, SM City North EDSA, Quezon City.

The annual national cultural event of Eid’l Fitr Festival is an excellent springboard to build a better understanding and appreciation among Filipinos of ethnic, racial and religious diversity in the country. This event brings mallgoers of The Block, SM City North EDSA closer to the richness of the cultural heritage of Muslims in the Philippines that lays strong foundations for stronger social, economic and cultural partnership between Muslims and non-Muslims, create a positive environment of mutual trust and confidence among Muslims and non-Muslims and, provide an attraction for tourist arrivals from the Islamic countries who go on vacation during the Eid’l Fitr.

Let’s join Chef Lau’s Dinner Party!

Celebrity chef and the man behind Bistro Filipino, Chef Rolando Laudico together with Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief (CSPR) is throwing a party and you can win an exclusive invite for 2 to join the sensitivity pain-free party as he shares and celebrates his success over tooth-sensitivity with Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief.

As for me, I want to be on this party to ask 3 things:
1. When he cooks, does he think of the crowd more and adjust to their taste or he simply cooks from his heart?
2. As a person with no talent in cooking at all, I wanted to ask him the secret of cooking sensitive pain-free and yet delicious meals/desserts? Especially, when we all know  tooth sensitivity ruins our total food/eating experience.
3. Chef's are normally private people. Why did he particularly chose to partner Colgate on this event?

Lucas

So Remember Me One Day as Kind

When I die, I want people to remember me as kind. It hasn’t always been that way. Four years ago, I was a very different person, a wounded...
