be-WITCH-ing things about boys....

Girls say that the most complicated beings in this world are the boys. Several years ago, I summarized 'Summit's 100 bewitching ways to get to know boys in my old, untouched multiply account and now, I would like to share the same to my zupermia.com readers.

I hope you'll enjoy word by word of everything that is in here. I'm not expecting you the girls to be boy masters' after but, nonetheless, they should understand and realize by themselves that there is "a girls' and guys' world" in every planet. Girls' may think that we completely understand our guy friends or boyfriends but, sometimes, the way we understand them is a way lot different or worst it's the entire opposite thing.

Let's give boys that world they want as we want ours. Space and territory is important for both girls and boys. The only way to know the boys is to be like them or find that secret paths that leads to their heart. Boys will be boys and girls will be girls...

For sure, we can't remove the fact that girls needs boys as much as boys need girls in order to survive.

HE’S A TOTAL DORK!:
Boys seem like strange creatures but they feel the same way about girls…
Listen with your heart as well as your ears. Try to respect him [the BOYS] for what he is, without forcing him to be the same as us [the GIRLS].
Five tips on ‘FATHOMING’… the unfathomable guy:
1.      Pay more attention to what he does than what he says.
2.      When meeting him, bring along a dictionary.
3.      Ask your brother for advice.
4.      If a guy wants me to understand him… it’s up to him to make himself understandable.
5.      Bombard him with questions, just like what you do with your teachers.
What do guys usually think about while sitting on the beach at sunset?Tomorrow’s big basketball game.

BOY TASTES:
How can you tell what a guy’s favorite pizza is? By the stains on his shirt.

MISS SQUEAKY CLEAN:
If Louis Pasteur had you[girls] and mom in his lab, he would never have discovered penicillin and saved the lives of millions of people—because penicillin is made from mold!

TO CRY OR NOT TO CRY?:
Boys have been brought up to appear strong and brave whatever the circumstances. That is why they hide their true emotions and feelings as much as possible. This does not mean they are heartless creatures… They’re just not very good at expressing what they feel inside because no one’s ever taught them.
It is unthinkable for a boy to cry or talk about his feelings. Real men, people say, never show their feelings especially when there are women around. They’re supposed to come off as strong and courageous, even if they really are hurting inside.
Boys cry, too! It’s just that they do it “inside”, hiding behind layers and layers of silence for fear of being found out.

WHY DO THEY ACT DIFFERENTLY IN GROUPS?:
Five tips to deal with boys who treat you like dirt in front of their pals:
1.      Keep distance, but do not forget.
2.      As soon as possible, try to give him a taste of his own medicine with the help of your friends.
3.      Pretend not to notice, even though you’re boiling with rage inside.
4.      Ignore him until he apologizes—he has to make the first move.
5.      Take a deep breath, and silently repeat, “Poor boys….”
Boys behave differently in groups than they were alone. If there’s a girl nearby [the one he likes], it is probable that he will exhibit unpleasant or unfriendly behavior. But in reality, this “bad behavior” is his way of trying to stand out in the crowd… without exposing himself too much.

TOUGH ON THE OUTSIDE… CREAMPUFFS ON THE INSIDE:
Everyone has a weak spot, even the most arrogant and obnoxious tough boys. The best way to deal with them is to figure out their “Achilles’ heel” and strike with a heavy dose of irony!

WE CAN LEARN FROM BOYS:
There’s a lot to learn from boys. Generally speaking, they tend to be much more concrete and direct than us[girls]. This means if we want something from them, it’s best to come right out and say it—with sweetness and charm, of course. And most likely they’ll be glad to help, especially if what we need is something really practical.
Besides basketball, soccer and baseball, problem solving is their favorite sport. It’s their way of showing care for us but they’d never really admit it.

GUY FRIENDS:
Is it worth asking boys for advice on romantic things? Sure, if you want to find out how NOT to proceed!
Sometimes I can’t understand a word boys say... Try taking your earplugs out.
What kind of secrets can I tell a guy friend? The kind that you don’t want to stay secret.
How can I become friends with a guy? Ask him a lot of questions, but don’t listen to his answers. Otherwise, you might change your mind!

BIG BROTHERS THE PRO’S AND CON’S:
Why do big brothers always leave their sneakers all over the house? To mark their territory with a pungent, unmistakable odor.
What should I do if my big brother starts dating my best friend? Find another best friend.
What’s the best kind of brother to have? One that goes away to college.
I share my room with my brother and his snoring keeps me up at night. What can I do? Tape him while he snores, turn up your stereo all the way and play it back while he’s sleeping.

HOW TO WIN THEM[boys] OVER:
Winning boys’ friendship or making him happy is easier than you think. Sometimes, all it takes is a small gesture. By treating him with kindness and avoiding over aggressive criticisms of what he say or do, and perhaps offering him pleasant little surprises to find a path that leads straight to his heart.
Remember: If one of the guys in your life has a problem, be willing to listen, stand by him, and tell him you’re on his side.
Guys love to feel appreciated. Compliments and kind words are just as important to them as they are to us. Even if they are not as good as expressing their feelings, if somebody does it for them… they melt like candles.
How to make guys happy:
1.      Try telling him about how good he looks and observe his reaction. Whoever said that guys weren’t fashion—conscious airheads?
2.      Be in whatever sports that he’s in. offer to follow the events of the sports year together with him. And remember to root his favorite team!
3.      Don’t judge him too harshly after an argument: of he’s already apologized and you’ve forgiven him then no long faces and pouting around!
4.      Don’t freak out if he forgets an anniversary… he probably didn’t do it on purpose, it’s just that certain nuances escape him.
5.      When you’re with his friends, talk about how great he was that time when he…

FIEND OR FOE?:
Five tips on getting along with guys:
1.      I seek a compromise between their tastes and mine.
2.      I never take them too seriously.
3.      I try to be patient without overdoing it, of course…
4.      I come right out and tell them what it is I can’t stand.
5.      I try to get interested in the things they like.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY:
How can I tell if a guy is in love with me? Ask him. If he faints, the answer is yes.
Why do so many girls dream of dazzling prince charmings and knights in shining armors? Because they plan to major in medieval history when they enter college.
What does it mean when a guy blushes when I talk to him? He’s probably suffering from indigestion.
There’s a boy I like, but he seems so closed off in his own world… be patient! If that’s not enough, try using a can opener.

Lines from the Movie:
Maggie Murdock: What's your game?
Jamie Randall: My game?
Maggie Murdock: Oh I'm sorry. Right. This is the part where we talk about where we come from and what we majored in in college.
Jamie Randall: You have beautiful eyes.
Maggie Murdock: That's it? That's the best you got?
Jamie Randall: I'm serious. They're beautiful.
Maggie Murdock: Let's go.
Jamie Randall: Excuse me?
Maggie Murdock: You want to close right? You want to get laid?
Jamie Randall: Now?
Maggie Murdock: Oh right, right, right. I'm supposed to act like I don't know if it's right. So then you tell me that there is no right or wrong. It's just the moment. And then I tell you that I can't while actually signalling to you that I can, which you don't need because you're not really listening. Because this isn't about connection for you. This isn't even about sex for you. This is about finding an hour or two of relief from the pain of being you. And that's fine with me, see, because all I want is the exact same thing.

The Velveteen

The Velveteen Rabbit or How Toys Become Real is a children's novel written by Margery Williams and illustrated by William Nicholson.

I'm not fond of reading Children novels, for I find it too magical and too dramatic. I came across the story of The Velveteen Rabbit while I was reading The Little Prince. The velveteen was used, I don't know if it was an introduction to the book or something else, but it was there in excerpt.

The story of the Velveteen is about a stuffed rabbit and his quest to become real through the love of his owner. The book was first published in 1922 and has been republished for so many times already

It's one of my favorite children novels. It's light, easy, real and touching. I think toy story was more or less based on this.... or I could be wrong.
Quotes from the story:
Rabbit: Does 'real' mean having things that buzz inside you and a handle that sticks out? Rocking Horse: 'Real' isn't how you're made, it's a thing that happens to you. Love makes you real. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but really loves you, then you've become real. Once you're real, you can't become un-real again. It lasts for always.

Here's a video of what I'm talking about.... enjoy, fave fun, Be REAL.

Year of the Bunny Wabbit

YEAR OF THE RABBIT

The Rabbit Years occupy the 4th position in the Chinese Zodiac following Tiger Years, and it recurs every twelfth year. The Rabbit symbolizes such character traits as creativity, compassion, and sensitivity. Rabbits are friendly, outgoing and prefer the company of others. They also prefer to avoid conflict. In confrontational situations, Rabbits approach calmly and with consideration for the other party. Rabbits believe strongly in friends and family and lacking such bonds can lead to emotional issues.

Their serene nature keeps Rabbits from becoming visibly upset. Because they’re serene animals, Rabbits are easily taken advantage of. Their sensitive nature makes them shy away from aggressive or competitive situations. They’re overall conservative and not interested in taking risks.

Classy, sophisticated, expressive, well-mannered and stylish, those born under the Sign of the Rabbit enjoy leaning about cultural issues and learning about people from other countries. Rabbits are most comfortable being home, and their homes are always neat and organized. Home is also where Rabbits prefer to entertain. Rabbits are conservative in their decorating tastes.

Rabbits should work at building more self-confidence and self-worth so they can feel more secure. The desire for remaining in safe, comfortable environments keeps Rabbits from taking risks which sometimes causes them to miss out on good opportunities.

Health
Even though Rabbits don’t usually get visibly upset or stressed, they do tend to keep these feelings inside. When they don’t express these feelings, such feeling can cause Rabbits to become ill. Rabbits could benefit from more everyday activity which would reduce their stress levels and better their health.
Relationships
Rabbits are very sexual, but tend to give more of themselves than they should. This can lead to unrealistic expectations and unhealthy situations. Rabbits need partners who won’t take advantage of their giving nature. Such pairings will be strong.
Career
Rabbits are articulate and good communicators which is why friends and acquaintances seek out their advice. It’s also why Rabbits make excellent diplomats and politicians. Other good careers for Rabbits include: writer, publisher, actor, fashion designer, therapist, doctor, administrator, public relations, and teacher.

Rabbits and the 5 elements:

  • Metal Rabbits – Years 1951 and 2011

Metal gives Rabbits more strength, resilience and determination. Metal Rabbits are more intense in their actions, whether they’re work-related or romantic.
  • Water Rabbits – Years 1903 and 1963

Like the currents, Water Rabbits prefer to go with the flow, avoiding conflict at all costs, even in situations that are bothersome. It’s easy to take advantage of Water Rabbits. They’re very supportive of others.
  • Wood Rabbits – Years 1915 and 1975

Wood Rabbits occupy their time doing for others; always feeling the need to make others content. This generosity is easy for others to take advantage of and sometimes Water Rabbits don’t even realize is happening.
  • Fire Rabbits – Years 1927 and 1987

Fire adds spark to the Rabbit’s personality and all that Fire Rabbits do. Fire compels Rabbits to seek new adventures. Prone to tantrums, Fire Rabbits prefer to avoid conflict.
  • Earth Rabbits – Years 1939 and 1999

Earth Rabbits are grounded in reality. Their advice can be harsh, but honest. Home life is important to Earth Rabbits as are money and material goods.
Compatibility

The Rabbit is most compatible with the Pig and Dog and incompatible with the Rooster and Rat.

Heads Up Fellow Rabbits! It's our Year!

Chinese New Year

For a lot Chinese, Chinese New Year is the most celebrated occasion, even more than Christmas. Their new year is not like the new year that we often celebrate on the 1st day of January. The Chinese new year is the Lunar New Year, where the new year is based on the lunar phase of the lunisolar Chinese calendar.

Usually, the new year falls on any day from January 21 to February 21 depending on when the first new moon of the lunar year comes. Each year is named for one of twelve animals in turn: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, or Pig. this year the Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 3.

The Chinese New Year festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month in the Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Filipino Chinese or Tsinoys in the Philippines celebrates the new year with some traditions:
  • Families make offerings to the gods, especially the Kitchen God, who is responsible for reporting everything that transpires throughout the year to the Emperor of all Gods. They offer the Kitchen God sweet foods so he will report sweet things. Tikoy, a sticky pudding, is not only a favorite treat on this occasion, it is a favorite offering to the Kitchen Gods since it is said to be capable of keeping the God's jaw glued shut, to prevent him from making an unfavorable report. After the food offerings are all made, an image of the Kitchen God is put on a paper chair and set on fire so he can "ride the flames" to heaven. He returns at the height of the New Year's Eve celebrations.
  • Red is the favorite color for Chinese New Year clothing and decorations, as it is said to bring good luck. Since it symbolizes fire, it is believed to ward away evil and to frighten away a legendary monster that terrorizes people on New Year’s Eve.
  • Families have reunions for New Year’s Eve dinner either in their homes or in restaurants.
  • Fireworks are set off at midnight since it is said that the noise and the fire frightens bad spirits away. This is rooted in an old custom of lighting bamboo stalks to scare bad spirits.
  • Doors and windows are opened at midnight to let out the evil of the old year and let in the luck and prosperity of the New Year.
  • There is a belief that the later children stay awake, the longer they and their parents will live, so children stay up past midnight to welcome the New Year.
  • After midnight, children receive ang pao -- red envelopes containing cash, with the words hi(happiness), sin (long life), and kiong hi huat tsai (congratulations and prosperity) printed on it.
  • On New Year’s Day people greet each other with kiong hi or kung hei fat choi (congratulations and be prosperous).
  • The most colorful New Year ritual is the dragon dance, or lion dance. An enormous dragon/lion head, with a long body of colorful fabric, performs a vibrant and energetic dance manipulated by skilled operators. In Manila, many lion dancers roam the streets of Binondo.
  • Residents who want the dragons/lions to cleanse their homes and bring good fortune hang an ang paoat the top of their gates. The lion dancers demonstrate their strength and skill as they climb to reach the red envelopes. After getting an envelope, the dragon/lion does a short victory dance, bows three times in thanks, and moves on to look for the next one.
  • Traditionally all debts should be settled before the beginning of the New Year. Since a new year is a chance for a new beginning, it is considered best to start it off with a clean slate.

In our family, though we are not Chinese, we usually spend the new year eating Tikoy, Hopia and other Eng Bee Tin goodies.

2011: Plans and Planes

I always start my year with a PLAN. Some of the plans are, even of, that things I know I wouldn't be able to accomplish but I write still.

If my 2010 is a light year, my 2011 is a year full of decisions, choices, progress and saving up.

Jan - Mar
I think the first quarter of the year would be light. Adjusting to the new year is something I always give myself a huge time to adapt. Why? Don't you have that phase too... when you always write the previous year on dates? Kidding.

This quarter will also judge how I managed my 1st Sem in UP. And I hope for great grades... just because I know I'm great. Kidding again.

GOALS:

  • Learn to Play Chess
  • Submit my first ever Palanca Entry

April to June
This would be the phase where I decide If I will be spending my birthday out of the country--like Singapore or just go on with my 3rd quarter of the year plans.

GOALS:

  • Learn to Sew using that cute sewing machine
  • Enroll 3 subjects

July to September
This is the month where Apple releases their newly upgraded and updated gadgets. Yes, I believe the iPhone you have now is the same iPhone 2g I toyed around for quite sometime, just in different shape, color, interface or whatever. I am decided now to buy the iPhone 5 or iPhone 4g/4gs... I wouldn't make the same mistakes of letting everything pass and be undecided like lasts' year! >.< Damn... I didn't get that iPhone 4. But, as I always say the more you wait the more you love!

GOALS:

  • Buy iPhone 5
  • Decide for the Last quarter of the year MAJOR MAJOR MOVE

October to December
I really don't have to decide for this quarter. I well planned it in the short holiday 2010 break and I'm a hundred and ninety-nine percent sure that I'm resigning from my current job [not if they allow 6 months leave?]. I'll be flying to US on November. Yes, right after James' graduation. Well, be spending the Halloween, Christmas, New Year, Valentines, and perhaps even the Holy Week there.

GOALS:
  • Buy winter clothes... Hello snowy!

I know 2011 will be a great year. I'm actually excited about how this year ends that how it is  beginning. It starts light and easy. I'll go on it, move fast and make huge decisions, then, end it with a bing bang theory of quitting my job and flying to US.

Oh! I love it!

My 2011 motto: GLOW, GLOW, GLOW!!!
The Gadgets I plan to buy: A new phone and a new laptop
Habits I plan to stop: Cursing, sleeping late, playing too much online game
Place I want to go: Cebu
Things I want to learn: Play chess, learn to ride a bike!

My over-all goal: THIS YEAR I'LL WRITE A NOVEL!

So Remember Me One Day as Kind

When I die, I want people to remember me as kind. It hasn’t always been that way. Four years ago, I was a very different person, a wounded...
